Cebu

2015 had been so amazing (and so swift); even I am still caught in a whirlwind. But one that has been personally and professionally rewarding. I shall then start off 2 0 1 6 here, fresh from where I trailed off... I too am aware of the backlog of stories I can't wait to share! Right now I'm hurting my back a little from the chilly winter weather and spending too much time in front of the computer. Which takes me back to where I'd rather be - in the water, feeling the warmth of the sun, chasing whalesharks.

Honestly, it's been in my long bucketlist to "swim with the butanding" in Oslob, Cebu. But a wishlist is just a list until you actually make it come to life and becomes one. hell. of an adventure. Plus the amazing people you are with and making new friends. Cebu wouldn't be complete without having their famous lechon for dinner upon arriving the city. We took a 3 hour bus ride and spent the night in Argao Bureau of Fire Protection Station (Yes, you read that right! Thanks to AteYan Winking) Finding a one-night-only shelter in the barracks of our fire fighters. We didn't waste any time and set off again way before sunrise for another 3 hour bus ride from Argao down South of Cebu to Oslob. And there we were, at the MB's Sunrise View Resort. But first, a briefing before getting too close with the giants.

The encounter with these wonderful creatures is a lifetime worth of experience forever etched in my memory. It was terrifying, at first, seeing them in all their glory (I had a photo that looks like a clip from the Jaws movie!) But then, it was too magical to be scary. I felt happy and alive swimming right next to them and they don't even mind you being there. Just letting you be. A true gentle giant.

I had to catch and hold my breath for a few seconds chasing them around. Then realizing that you are surrounded by a number of them. Props to our team of boat men who I know are so hard working and kind (shoutout to Kuya Ryan!) who just took my camera and started taking our pictures which came out so beautifully! I'd have to say, don't just try to take pictures with them but swim with them. Time and again, I am so proud of what we have in our very own backyard. How there is so much in our own home! (Ato ni 'bai! Atin 'to!) I am so thankful to my fellow "backpacker", mermaid and Ate Ann for this dream come true Red heart She is truly deserving of the "Travel Buddy of the Year" Award. Haha! Thank you also Mr. Butanding for your life and making my love for the ocean even bigger! When the time came for us to go, I couldn't help but look back.

Pico de Loro

I'm not exactly a sporty person, I don't do sports, but I sure am an Adrenaline Junkie! On this same day, exactly a year ago, I had this AMAZING experience to climb a mountain! Climbing a mountain sounds oblivious, but it is truly life fulfilling and changing. My sister and I happily joined a group of experienced mountaineers and were Drop. Dead. Excited! Recalling that day, we had our water bottles filled, rucksack ready and camera fully charged!

An early morning jeepney ride to Maragondon, Cavite got us started that will take us to the site. People from all walks of life, men, women, teens, adults, buff, fit, experienced, non-experienced came together for one and the same goal: Climb up the mountain (which is optional) and Go back down (mandatory). At the sheer look of participants, one could tell who would make it or not. But that's not how it works for mountaineering. Sure one has to have the physical strength, but those who make it to the top are the ones with a lot of heart. Hours were spent walking and hiking trails, terrains, water streams, rocks and thick foliage. Nature will be your best friend on the journey, a little twig will help you lift yourself up, a steady rock will secure your every step and a tree's shade will give you a good spot to rest. And then, Mother Nature rewards! Reaching the peak of Mt. Pico de Loro was nothing I've ever seen or experienced in my life. I never knew such beauty. You feel VICTORIOUS that a small person, like me, has conquered a huge mountain. It's true that the hardest, most hidden places to go to, is a place worth going. This ADVENTURE I had is inexplainable. One must struggle to understand. But this I can promise, it is worth EVERYTHING!

Pico de Loro, my baptism of fire in mountain climbing!

It's always further than it looks

It's always taller than it looks

And it's always harder than it looks

Throwback to Bohol

Here's for another "Throwback" entry and this time I'd like to take you to the Visayas, in Bohol! People who know me also know how much I love and how close this place is to my heart. I've been there countless times and spent most of my summers there! Aside it being a great tourist spot that boasts of clear white sand beaches, historical sites and nature's wonders; is that it's my mom's province and home to family. It's My Happy Place. My Home Away From Home.

July 2013

2013 had some of my best summer memories since I had two summers that year! (Yes.) So my first trip to Bohol last year was in May with my college friends and it was memorable! An addition to a lot of my firsts and we got the chance to explore more of Bohol on our toes!

The second time was in July which was extra special. Right after graduation, I went home and surprised my ever-so-dear cousins. I'd say we had the time of our lives! We were free, careless "young adults" that just went out together on a trip and enjoy the day, the company and the place as it is. That one day felt like a highlight in our entire lives. (We even named it "Super Laag", super lakwatsa in Filipino or super tripping in English) A night out with mah favourite gals was also sort of a solidarity night that tightened our bond even more. If only I can pour out more of my travel experiences beyond words and photos I would done it a long time ago! For now, enjoy these still life moments of mine.
